The Davis Dram 2016

May 21 @ 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm DAVT

lr-1771

May marks the coldest and darkest period of the year at the Davis Station on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the Antarctic, 2250 nautical miles south-west of Perth, Australia. It is the time when the sun finally disappears below the horizon, leaving the land in darkness.

Not all is dark for the 16 researchers based at the station in the current season, though. On the evening of World Whisky Day (21 May), they will all raise a dram of the amber liquid to warm up as they await the sun’s eventual return.
