Save the Date – World Whisky Day 2014

The Scottish graduate who founded World Whisky Day is raising a dram to the end of 2013 and announcing his plans for next year’s global event on 17 May 2014.

Blair Bowman says the worldwide celebration will be the biggest and the best so far and will be supported by the launch of a dedicated new website.

The event is a celebration of whisky around the world, with supporters signing up to host their own events wherever they are and flagship events taking place in Scotland, the home of whisky.

Blair said: “2014 is a key year for World Whisky Day. Scotland is celebrating Homecoming, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, as well as Whisky Month in May. Given all that, next year’s World Whisky Day is going to be bigger than ever, with events taking place all around the globe.

“In 2013, the only continent we didn’t have a World Whisky Day event was Antarctica. I hope that next year there is an event in every continent and that many more people get involved. I would love to see people who have never tried whisky having their first dram on World Whisky Day – it is the perfect opportunity.”

Blair hopes to secure involvement from whisky brands all over the world who want to join in with the celebrations and hopes to raise money for charity.

Blair continued: “This is a celebration for everyone and all types of whisky – whether it’s Scotch whisky, Irish Whiskey or bourbon. It’s an opportunity for everyone to celebrate this wonderful tipple.”

The inaugural World Whisky Day was held in 2012 and saw over 20,000 people attend over 200 events all over the world. Scotch whisky exports hit a record £4.3 billion in 2012, an increase of 87% in the last 10 years.

World Whisky Day will now officially take place on the third Saturday in May each year.

World Whisky Day is supported by VisitScotland, the Scotch Whisky Experience, Scotland Food and Drink and the Scottish Government.
